How it started
Co-founder of Foundation Inspiratie-Inc, Amal is an experienced concept developer in the field of social innovations, community art and creative therapy.
She is very experienced in the field of networking, strategy, individual inter-vision and managing cultural diversity teams. A social entrepreneur with extra passion and drive for sustainability, inclusion and talent development for children, young people and their families.
Growing up in a multi-cultural family, already at a young age Amal experienced how this creates tension in one’s identity. ‘I didn’t fit neatly in one box and then you need people who can build bridges.’ Amal went on to do this herself as an adult with the different projects from Foundation Inspiratie Inc.
Working as a family therapist Amal discovered that children as well as adults often feel very lonely, especially as newcomers to a foreign country. And again Amal speaks from personal experience. She studied in England, lived in Gambia and moved to the Netherlands after that. Despite her professional qualifications she could not start to work. Because she was regularly addressed as an asylum seeker, and often in an unpleasant manner, she decided to go to the nearest asylum seekers centre to connect with this target group.
The most important contribution of Amal to the city of Almere is to connect people. People with different backgrounds in language, culture and religion, but also with different vulnerabilities. Amal: ‘Every individual is essentially different. That is why we look at the most suitable next step for each individual. What do people find important themselves? What makes them happy? What gives meaning to their lives? This is what we try to discover together. '
Amal has been appointed Ambassador For Peace by the Universal Peace Federation in her quest for finding the similarities between cultures which make it possible to live together.
